The pangolin is an endangered small scaly mammal that has been hunted almost to extinction. There is current research that the pangolin is somehow related to the COVID outbreak, certain research suggest that COVID came from the pangolin, maybe poetic justice that they are wreaking revenge on us because we are driving them to extinction. The sculpture is a relief cast made from cold cast copper and resin in a very small edition of 20. Peter made this sculpture personally by hand. This is not a mass produced item, it is signed and editioned on the back of the sculpture.
If you are interested in the process of how this sculpture is made then read on...
I carved the Pangolin and the pattern separately from wax, I then embedded the Pangolin sculpture in the pattern. I then made a mold of the entire thing and cold cast it in copper and resin. I then tarnished and polished the sculpture to give it the right patina.
This sculpture hangs on the wall like a painting. I felt like this artwork was a breakthrough for me and my art practice. It's a beautiful and intricate sculpture.
I hope that you would be reminded of the plight of the Pangolin, as they are one of the world's most endangered animals. The Pangolin is such a beautiful and innocent animal and I feel a particular love towards them.
